South led the ♠7 and having won with dummy’s ♠A declarer played a diamond to the ace, South following with the ♦Q. After some thought declarer cashed the ♦K and claimed, +920.
Why did declarer ignore the principle of restricted choice?
When he played a diamond from dummy North had followed almost instantly with the ♦8, which declarer considered to be unlikely holding ♦J83.
