South led the ♠7 and having won with dummy’s ♠A declarer played a diamond to the ace, South following with the Q. After some thought declarer cashed the K and claimed, +920.

Why did declarer ignore the principle of restricted choice?

When he played a diamond from dummy North had followed almost instantly with the 8, which declarer considered to be unlikely holding J83.
