Responses to a 2NT opening

North-South have reached a very poor contract. As so often, each of the two players considers that his partner is responsible for the accident. And you, what do you think?

This month we will be looking at:
Responses to a 2NT opening.

Problem 1

N/S Vul.

WNES
2NT
Pass3Pass3NT

The facts
North is a young beginner, as is confirmed by his bidding, while his partner of the moment is only slightly more experienced, but not very tolerant.

Arguments
North: “I remember that with five Spades and four Hearts you must bid Stayman and then over a 3 response show your five Spades, but with five Hearts and four Spades it is better to transfer to Hearts and then bid Spades. Your 3NT bid took the wind out of my sails.”
South: “If you don’t learn the bidding better, I won’t be able to continue playing with you. You have to make an effort. The Heart transfer of 3 denies four Spades. I have to say 3NT because I only have two Hearts; the 3NT bid denies Heart support. If I execute the transfer with 3, I promise three Hearts.”
