THE MAGICIANS OF RIGA

The Latvian capital played host to the 57th edition of the European National Championships. In the four team events, the prize on offer was not only the opportunity to be crowned European Champions, but also to earn
the right to represent Europe in the 2027 World Bridge Teams Championships by finishing in the top eight.
In the Open Series, Europe will be represented by Norway, Denmark, Israel, Sweden, Netherlands, England, Iceland and France.
In the Women’s Series, the qualifiers were England, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France, Poland and Türkiye.
The Senior Teams saw Poland, France, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Türkiye, Germany and Bulgaria qualify.
In the Mixed Teams, it was Poland, Romania, Israel, Belgium, England, Latvia, Sweden and France.
England’s Nicola Smith played in her first European Championship 56 years ago, and has now won a gold medal in six successive decades.
