Superiority in Lakeland

In the final of the Spingold at the ACBL’s Summer Nationals in Minneapolis, Marty Fleisher’s team defeated Andy Goodman’s squad 134-79, capping an outstanding display in which they were never in trouble in any of their matches. In the semifinal they had defeated the powerful Street team by a remarkable 134-4, the team shaking hands after three of the four sessions. It was a second Spingold victory for Bessis and Lorenzini, a third for Fleisher, Drijver and Brink and a fifth for Chip Martel.

The table count was 7931.5 tables, historically low for the Summer Nationals.
