THE RACE OF setting up tricks in suit contracts [PART 1]


Must we start by drawing trumps? Even though this is a good principle, quickly ruffing in the short hand or discarding a loser may take precedence. It is not enough to identify how you can establish an additional trick; you also need to consider the right timing for doing so. When drawing trumps causes you to lose a trick, it sets you back in the race. When we don’t have enough time, we have to risk an adverse ruff and delay drawing trumps.
