Responses to a 1NT overcall
North-South have reached a very poor contract. As so often, each of the two players considers that his partner is responsible for the accident. And you, what do you think?
This month we will be looking at:
Responses to a 1NT overcall.
Problem 1

The facts
An extraordinary accident. This young couple has not reached the laydown game contract in a tournament for intermediate players but salvaged an average score by bringing home twelve tricks.
Arguments
North: “You played your contract well, but I think you should have bid the game. I’ll have to ask Annie and Paul how they did it. I did think of encouraging you by bidding 3♠ over 2♠ but you can have only two cards in Spades and my singleton Heart isn’t necessarily useful.”
South: “I wasn’t very convinced of my 1NT bid with a simple stop in Hearts and a minimum for the overcall.”
