SUCCESS STORY
Launching a new bridge event might be considered just as daunting an enterprise. However, last year the generosity of Pierre Zimmermann allowed the European Bridge League to stage the Winter Transnational Championships in the famous French alpine resort, Alpe d’Huez.
Forty-eight teams ascended the climb that is an annual highlight of the Tour de France in search of the title.

by Mark Horton
Hoping to build on that beginning, the EBL has relocated to Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, for the 2025 edition, offering a substantial discount on entry fees to players from the host country and their neighbors, Austria, Germany, Poland & Slovakia.
The advantages of staging an event in a central European location in a magnificent city in the middle of February have been demonstrated in no uncertain fashion, as 89 teams comprising 438 players from 32 countries have entered the lists in search of a European title.
The next item on the agenda for the European Bridge League is the 11th European Transnational Championships in the wonderful city of Poznan, June 21 – July 5. The registration page is open:

By introducing substantial changes to its entry fees policy, the EBL intends to promote participation in transnational events by local players and players who have less bridge experience but would like to test their skills in the events which are in principle open to all eligible bridge players. They hope to boost participation and to make the European transnationals championships a festivity of the world’s bridge playing community.
‘If you build it they will come.’
