WHOSE FAULT IS IT?

North-South have reached a very poor contract. As so often, each of the two players considers that his partner is responsible for the accident. And you, what do you think?

This month we will be looking at:
Splinters by opener.

The facts
Our two friends have a solid knowledge of slam auctions. However, they missed this excellent Heart slam with 28HCP on their side. Who is responsible?

Arguments
North: “I already went out of my way to bid a Splinter with 17HCP, re-evaluating the quality and location of my honors. You have five Hearts headed by two honors and the Ace opposite my singleton, you cannot close the bidding at 4.”
South: “Here I recognize your one-way analysis. I rather considered that I had more than half of my honors opposite your singleton and that under these conditions exploring a slam with 8 useful points opposite a hand in the 17-19HCP range was not reasonable.”
