Blackwood or quantitative?
North-South have reached a very poor contract. As so often, each of the two players considers that his partner is responsible for the accident. And you, what do you think?
This month we will be looking at:
Blackwood or quantitative?
Problem 1

The facts
A real drama: there are between thirteen and fourteen tricks, even in No-Trump. Was the 4NT bid misunderstood by North or misused by South? That’s the question.
Arguments
North: “We reviewed this topic three days ago. When the 4NT bid directly follows a No-Trump bid, it is never Blackwood, even after support has been shown. That’s rule 3.”
South: “This rule applies after a forcing raise in a minor. There can be no question of playing a No-Trump contract when an eight or nine-card fit in a major has been announced.”
