THE RACE FOR SETTING UP TRICKS AT NO-TRUMP [PART 3]

Sometimes it is not enough to establish one suit, and declarer may need to set up an additional trick in another suit without losing the lead a second time. But then, how can we best combine the two? Only a magic trick can help. We need to steal a tempo. This maneuver, called “contretemps” in French, involves stealing a missing trick in one suit, without the opponent being able to prevent it – lest they give away even more tricks – before establishing another suit.
