BALANCE!

In matchpoint pairs, it is almost always opportune to balance when the opponents have found a fit and still stop at the two-level. However – and you have certainly seen that in regular Club tournaments – many players do not dare to do so when their hand does not dictate an obvious balancing call, for fear of a disastrous result.

As West, you pick up the following hand (All Vul.):

♠ 853
762
A5
♣ A10972

The auction starts as follows:

WNES
1
Pass2PassPass
?

It’s your turn… Will you pass or balance?
